Gear Review: Women’s Tiburon Pants by KUIU
The KUIU Tiburon Pants are a top pick for warm-weather backcountry wear: lightweight, breathable, and built for mobility without sacrificing durability. Learn more about them here!
When it comes to warm-weather performance pants, the KUIU Tiburon Pants are some of the most versatile and thoughtfully designed options I’ve worn. Built for breathability without sacrificing durability, they’re my go-to choice for summer hiking, scouting, and active outdoor work in rugged terrain.
Available in both women’s and men’s versions, these pants offer comfort, mobility, and performance-driven features that make them perfect for anyone who spends long days in the backcountry.
Standout Features
- Highly Breathable Toray Dot Air Fabric – This fabric uses tiny perforations to promote airflow, keeping you cool even in hot, dry climates.
- Durable Water-Repellent Finish – Offers light rain and moisture protection without feeling heavy or stiff.

- Articulated Knees & Gusseted Crotch – Enhances range of motion for steep climbs, scrambling, or active glassing sessions.
- Athletic Fit – Streamlined but not restrictive, with a flattering cut that works just as well in town as it does on the trail.
- Secure Storage – Zippered thigh pockets keep essentials handy without bulk.
Field Testing
I’ve put the Tiburon Pants through everything from desert day hikes to long summer scouting trips in the mountains. The first thing you notice is how breathable they are. Even on days when the temperature is pushing triple digits, they don’t feel stifling.
The fabric has just enough stretch to move with you, whether you’re stepping over blowdown, crouching low to photograph wildlife, or navigating talus fields. Despite their lightweight feel, they’ve resisted snags from brush and rocks far better than I expected.
The zippered thigh pockets are perfectly placed for easy access on the move, and they’re roomy enough for a phone, snacks, or a small GPS unit. I also appreciate the subtle but effective DWR finish, which helps shrug off light precipitation or morning dew.
Fit & Sizing
The women’s Tiburon Pants are cut for an active fit that’s neither too baggy nor too tight. The waistband sits comfortably in the natural waist without digging in, and there’s no gaping at the back when bending over. It's a high-waist design. As someone with a muscular, curvy shape from time spent in the backcountry, I find KUIU's women cuts nail it every single time. Spectacular fits.

The men’s version shares the same breathable fabric and performance features, with a slightly roomier cut in the hips and thighs. Both versions are available in multiple inseam lengths, which is a big win for dialing in the right fit.
