Gear Review: COROS PACE Pro GPS Sport Watch
The COROS PACE Pro GPS Sport Watch has been a very reliable activity tracker and route tool!

The world of GPS and Smart watches is mighty vast these days. There are a lot of options with a lot of features. But if a comfortable, reliable watch to track your hikes and health is what you're after, you will likely really enjoy the new COROS PACE Pro GPS Sport Watch. Which is a very long name for what we'll call the Pace Pro from here on out!

The Pace Pro is a new release from COROS and it's their nicest iteration of the Pace line of sports watches so far. Standouts for the Pace Pro are the very long-lasting battery, pin-point GPS accuracy and very lightweight design.

I've been using the COROS Pace Pro for nearly two months at this point, so have tested out most of its functionality and have a good grasp of whether or not this sports watch is worthy of upgrading to! I know not all of us are super into technology on our hikes or in general, so upgrading tech can be a big deal.

Let's dive into the Pace Pro to discuss what's good about it, what's not so good about it and everything between!

My Experience with the COROS PACE Pro GPS Sport Watch

I am pretty picky with the sport watches I use and certainly do not like to sleep with them on for the most part. But the COROS Pace Pro is actually comfortable enough that I can sleep with it on, so I have been wearing it 24/7 for a couple months. And I have been pretty surprised by how accurate it is and how infrequently I notice I'm wearing it.

When it comes to using it for hiking, I find that the map downloads are almost instant, which is killer. The tracking is super accurate and the biometric tracking is as well. Even the heart rate monitor, which can be pretty inaccurate with a lot of sport watches. I have tested out the deviation alert and am stoked on that because it lets you know almost right away that you've gone off route, so you can correct yourself before you wander too far.

COROS PACE Pro being used on a run

The sleep tracking on the Pace Pro leaves a bit to be desired and it sometimes thinks I've fallen asleep when I am winding down for the evening, which is annoying. But across the board this seems to be an issue for sports watches so I'm not too distraught over it.

The battery life on the Pace Pro is awesome. I have charged it twice in two months, but it has never dropped below 20% battery when I've decided to charge it up. The battery life is a definite stand out feature to me, as I am often backpacking for long stretches of time and do not want to worry about charging my watch. Even for day hikes, with some other watches the battery life can become an issue. So hooray for COROS and their battery technology.

Overall I am impressed. I didn't have super high hopes for being dazzled by the Pace Pro, but it's been a great surprise to be dazzled in the end. This watch has fully replaced the other sport watches I own and I chalk that up to its accuracy, comfort and battery life.

ProsCons
  • Super lightweight and comfortable
  • Sleep tracking is not great
  • Incredibly accurate GPS and location tracking
    • Accurate biometrics including heart rate

If you're looking to upgrade your current GPS sport watch or Smart watch, I would definitely recommend this new Pace Pro from COROS.
